Ignite XL 50 brings a long, recessed fireplace presentation to a room without a wood fire or gas connection. Its Multi-Fire® flame effect sits above the included acrylic crystals, giving the display a light-catching base that changes with the chosen color theme.
Move from white media lighting to orange or blue accents, or choose red or blue. Prism and Kaleidoscope add movement through changing colors; Midnight lets the flame take the visual lead with the media-bed lights switched off.
The flame is there for warm evenings as well as cold ones. Switch the heat off for atmosphere alone, or use Comfort$aver™ to adjust the fan and heater output around your preferred room temperature.
Make the evening your own
Eight lighting themes give the crystal bed a different character without changing the installation. In the cycling modes, Custom Color lets you stop on the shade you like and resume the cycle whenever you want.
Choose high or low brightness, with steady illumination or flickering media. The included infrared remote puts these controls within reach, while hidden touch controls on the upper right of the fireplace keep the face clean.

Settle in. Stay comfortable.

Comfort$aver™ uses the thermostat setting to adjust fan speed and heater wattage. Low-level operation around the set point helps maintain the room temperature instead of treating every heating cycle the same.
Eco reduces heating power. Heat Boost supplies maximum output for a selected burst of up to 20 minutes, adjustable in five-minute steps. The thermostat range is 41–99°F, and the sleep timer runs from 30 minutes to eight hours.
At 120 volts the heater is rated at 1,500 watts; hardwired 240-volt operation provides 2,500 watts. Choose the electrical arrangement with your installer before the wall is finished.
Measure once. Enjoy for years.

The XLF50 framed opening is 50⅝ inches wide by 16 inches high. Use 5½ inches of framing depth for a flush 2×6 installation or 3½ inches for partial recessing in 2×4 construction.
| Framed opening width | 50⅝ in |
|---|---|
| Framed opening height | 16 in |
| Flush framing depth / 2×6 | 5½ in |
| Partial-recess depth / 2×4 | 3½ in |
| Minimum above floor | 5 in |
| Minimum to ceiling | 24 in |
The fireplace is not load-bearing. Preserve airflow and limit decorative material overhang to ½ inch. For partial recessing, XLFTRIM50 is the recommended separate trim kit. Wiring enters at the lower right, so plan the supply route before closing the opening.
Review the manual’s temperature-zone diagram and the television or mantel manufacturer’s limits. The fireplace needs at least 5 inches above the floor and 24 inches below the ceiling; these fireplace clearances do not establish a television’s permitted temperature exposure.
Take the gathering outside

Ignite XL is suitable for outdoor areas protected by an overhang against direct water entering the unit. The shelter needs to be planned as part of the installation, rather than added as a decorative afterthought.
The height from the bottom of the fireplace to the bottom edge of the overhang must not exceed three times its projection from the fireplace face. For example, a nine-foot height requires at least a three-foot projection. Follow the manual’s drawing and local electrical requirements.
Indoor installations receive five years of limited coverage; outdoor installations receive one year. The manual recommends ground-fault protection outdoors and calls for seasonal inspection in outdoor settings.

Good questions. Useful answers.
XLF50 can be partially recessed into 2×4 construction at a 3½-inch framing depth, or flush-mounted in 2×6 construction at 5½ inches deep. Both use a 50⅝-inch-wide by 16-inch-high framed opening. XLFTRIM50, sold separately, is recommended for the partially recessed installation to finish the projecting portion. Choose the recess depth before finishing the wall.
The heater is rated at 1,500 watts at 120 volts and 2,500 watts at 240 volts. The included power cord is for the documented 120-volt installation; 240-volt operation requires hardwiring. Have the electrical supply and circuit protection planned for the chosen connection before closing the wall. The flame display can be used with the heat switched off.
Comfort$aver™ adjusts fan speed and heater wattage around the thermostat setting. At the set point, the fan and heater can keep running at a low level to maintain comfort. If the room becomes significantly warmer, the heater turns off and the unit periodically circulates air. A fan running gently near the set temperature can therefore be normal operation.
Prism cycles the media bed through colors; Kaleidoscope cycles those colors at different rates. Press Custom Color while the desired color is showing to hold that color, then press again to resume cycling. Midnight switches the media-bed lights off. These options change the illuminated acrylic-crystal presentation; they do not require replacing the supplied crystals.
The manual permits bathroom installation with a GFCI-protected receptacle or circuit. A receptacle must remain readily accessible. The fireplace is not watertight and must never be placed where it could fall into a bathtub or another water container. Have the proposed location and electrical protection checked against the manual and local requirements before installation.
No. Outdoor installation needs an overhang that protects against direct water entering the fireplace. The height from the bottom of the fireplace to the lower edge of the overhang must not exceed three times the overhang’s projection from the fireplace face. Electrical connections must meet local requirements, and ground-fault protection is recommended. Outdoor installations carry one year of limited coverage; indoor installations carry five years.
Use the manual’s temperature-zone diagram together with the television, artwork or mantel manufacturer’s own limits. The area above a heater is not uniformly cool, so a single general mounting height cannot establish suitability. Keep the fireplace at least 24 inches below the ceiling and preserve the required airflow at the opening. Decorative finishing material must not overhang the fireplace by more than ½ inch.
Eco operates the heater at reduced power. Heat Boost runs at maximum power for a chosen period, adjustable in five-minute increments up to 20 minutes. The thermostat has a 41–99°F setting range. Use the mode that suits the room and the moment; the flame and color effects can be controlled independently of the heat.
The heating element retains heat after shutdown, so the fan has a two-minute cool-down period before stopping completely. That short run-on is expected. Keep the air path clear and inspect for dust regularly; the manual calls for inspection at least yearly indoors and seasonally outdoors. Persistent unusual operation should be reviewed using the troubleshooting guide or authorized service support.
The supplied multifunction infrared remote and the hidden touch controls operate the fireplace. Point the remote toward the front of the unit. The controls retain previously used settings after a power interruption, and the sleep timer can be set from 30 minutes to eight hours in 30-minute steps. No app is required for these documented controls.

EXTERNAL CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
OUR PRODUCT ASSESSMENT
Ignite XL remains an appealing choice for a clean, wide fireplace feature without the water upkeep of Optimyst or the depth of the more elaborate multi-sided models. We like the relatively shallow body and straightforward crystal-bed presentation. Owner feedback often centers on the finished look and useful supplementary warmth. Plan the wall opening and electrical connection carefully, then decide whether the standard media gives you the appearance you want before buying an optional log arrangement. It is a well-balanced architectural option rather than a substitute for the home's heating system.
Owners describe the finished fireplace as attractive and satisfying to use, with positive comments about installation and supplementary warmth. One owner liked the experience enough to have two units. The visual effect is the recurring appeal; we would use that feedback to guide a room-design choice rather than promise a particular heating result or trouble-free service life.
The broad glass and crystal presentation work well when the fireplace should complement the room rather than compete with every other finish. The comparatively shallow body can make planning easier than a deep multi-sided firebox, while still requiring the specified framing and clearances.
Flame-only operation allows the feature to stay useful in warm weather. The supplied remote and media cover the basic experience without demanding an app or water supply. Optional media should be treated as a deliberate visual upgrade, not an essential missing component.
A shallow appliance does not mean it fits every wall cavity. Confirm the exact model dimensions, wiring plan and any partial-recess trim requirements. Do not use the nominal size as a cutout measurement or assume all Ignite generations have identical openings.
Owners who enjoy the heat still describe a fireplace serving a room, not replacing central heating. A larger width primarily changes the visual proportion. View the crystal effect and optional log look before choosing, particularly if the room has strong daylight or a low seating position.
Ignite XL is most persuasive when you want an established linear platform with a clean appearance and fewer ownership chores than a vapor system. Compare it with Evolve on the controls, included media and warranty that matter to you. A larger or newer model is worth more only if its presentation or features improve the room you are actually building.
The 4.8/5 Market Rating is based on 217 eligible customer ratings reviewed by Hearth Outpost. The star breakdown distribution shows how those customers rated the product. These are aggregated customer reviews across the market and not random sampling.
The family assessment pools sizes, fuel types, generations and colors. Equipment differs by configuration. The HOP score is a price-independent research assessment. Owner themes summarize the accessible sample.
