Gather around a different kind of fire

A little more atmosphere. A lot more you.

SEN50 installed in an indoor living space

Vital™ Sense 50 brings a louver-less electric fire presentation to a recessed feature wall or a wall-mounted installation. The supplied tumbled-glass ember bed adds texture beneath the flames without a wood fire, gas connection or vent.

Thirteen flame colors, three flame speeds and three brightness settings give the display a range of moods. Media lighting has its own controls, so the flame and the illuminated glass can play different roles in the room.

Use the flame with the heat off for atmosphere, or select the fan-forced heater when the room needs supplemental warmth. The 120-volt plug kit and wall bracket are supplied, with installation choices described in the model’s manual.

Make the evening your own

One fireplace. More ways to set the mood.

Choose a flame color, then adjust its speed and brightness rather than treating the whole display as one fixed effect. The media themes offer warm white, red/orange, blue, purple and green, plus Prism color cycling.

Midnight switches the media-bed lighting off. The supplied tumbled glass catches the light in the other themes, giving the ember bed a different character without requiring additional decorative media.

Settle in. Stay comfortable.

Warmth when you want it. Control within reach.

Vital Sense multifunction infrared remote

The heater offers low heat, high heat, cool airflow and off, with a thermostat range of 62–92°F. The heat can also be disabled while other controls remain available, making the flame display usable on warmer days.

The hidden touch panel sits on the front glass and returns to its concealed state after five seconds. The supplied infrared remote works from approximately 20 feet when pointed toward the fireplace. Glen Dimplex Connect provides the documented app connection.

A sleep timer runs from 30 minutes to eight hours in half-hour steps. Previously used settings are retained when the unit is turned back on, except the timer. Only one app device can be connected at a time.

Measure once. Enjoy for years.

A clean finish starts behind the wall.

Make room for the finishing details

Maintain at least ½ inch behind the appliance for air circulation. Depending on the receptacle location, a plug-in installation may need extra room for the plug head. Support the wall-mounted unit with suitable wall structure and the documented securing brackets.

Choose the right room

Vital Sense is for appropriate indoor locations. Its manual prohibits outdoor use and excludes bathrooms, laundry areas and similar spaces. Plan the mounting and electrical connection together before the wall is finished.

Good questions. Useful answers.

Let’s get your project right.

Can Vital Sense hang on a wall, or must it be recessed?

Both arrangements are described in the manual. A recessed installation uses the side-mounting brackets in a framed opening; a wall-mounted installation uses the supplied wall bracket and provided L-brackets to keep the unit secured. The mounted depth including the wall bracket is 7¼ inches. Decide on the installation type before locating the electrical connection.

Which measurements should my installer use for the opening?

SEN50 requires a minimum opening 48⅝ inches wide, 18½ inches high and 7¾ inches deep. Its front-glass width is 50⅜ inches, so the glass dimension must not be used as the recessed opening width. Keep at least ½ inch of clearance behind the appliance for air circulation. A plug and receptacle may need additional space depending on their position.

Is a separate plug kit or wall bracket required?

The 120-volt plug kit and wall bracket are supplied. The manual also describes the side-mounting option and provided L-brackets for wall mounting. These supplied components should not be bought again as missing add-ons. Have the installer check the wall support, fixings and electrical arrangement for the chosen location.

Which app does Vital Sense use?

Vital Sense uses the Glen Dimplex Connect app. The manual describes Bluetooth-assisted setup and two Wi-Fi pairing methods, with the fireplace indicator showing pairing status. Only one device can be connected at a time; pairing a new device replaces the previous connection. The supplied infrared remote and hidden touch controls remain available for everyday operation.

Why might the touch controls not respond after installation?

The front glass must be correctly mounted before the unit is connected and powered, because the touch icons operate through that glass. Touch the hidden control area to the right of the clear window to reveal the controls; the panel hides again after five seconds. If the controls remain inactive, follow the manual’s power-disconnection check and contact support if the issue persists.

Can I enjoy the flames without producing heat?

Yes. The Heat control cycles through low heat, high heat, cool airflow and off, and the heater can also be disabled while other controls continue to work. The thermostat range is 62–92°F. Cool airflow, shown as “Cb,” circulates air without active heating. Choose the heat setting separately from the flame color and media lighting.

How do the flame colors differ from the media themes?

The flame control cycles through 13 flame colors. A separate media-theme control offers warm white, red/orange, blue, purple and green, plus Prism color cycling and Midnight with media lighting off. Three flame speeds and high, medium or low flame brightness add further adjustment. The supplied tumbled glass catches the media light without needing a different decorative pack.

Can Vital Sense go outdoors or in a bathroom?

The manual prohibits outdoor use and says the appliance is not intended for bathrooms, laundry areas or similar indoor locations. Choose an appropriate indoor space and preserve the required air circulation. A lifestyle photograph or a shallow cabinet does not change these placement requirements; use the Sense manual for this model when planning the room.

What electrical circuit should I plan?

Vital Sense operates at 120 volts, 60 Hz, 12.5 amps and 1,500 watts. A 15-amp, 120-volt circuit is required. A dedicated circuit is preferred and becomes necessary if other appliances on the circuit cause repeated trips. The supplied plug kit supports the documented plug-in arrangement, and hardwiring is also described. Have wiring and protection checked against local requirements.

Does it need cleaning or ongoing inspection?

Inspect the firebox regularly and at least yearly. Remove dust and use a damp cloth as needed, with power disconnected and the heater allowed to cool first. The remote uses a replaceable 3-volt CR2032 or CR2025 battery. Installation and cleaning are described in the manual; other servicing should be handled by an authorized service representative.

OUR PRODUCT ASSESSMENT

Hearth Outpost Score

7.8/10

Vital Sense is worth considering when you want a clean linear feature with useful everyday controls and a relatively approachable installation. We like the included glass media, remote and plug kit, plus the option to use the Glen Dimplex Connect app. Its broad presentation can help a media wall feel finished without a much deeper fireplace enclosure. Choose it primarily for atmosphere and supplemental warmth, and check the mounting plan early. The one-year warranty is a meaningful distinction from some of the higher-tier Ignite models.

What owners are saying

Owners describe a sleek, attractive addition to built-ins and living spaces, with the fireplace helping the room feel cozier. The comments are more about the finished look than sustained heating performance. A separate owner's account praises the visual effect and installation but mentions mechanical noise, making room placement and sound worth considering alongside appearance.

What stands out

A useful starting package

Tumbled glass, the remote, mounting hardware specified in the manual and a plug kit reduce the number of separate decisions needed to get started. The clean glass-front presentation suits a contemporary room without requiring an elaborate log arrangement.

Control the mood

Flame settings and heating controls let the fireplace serve different routines, from an evening background effect to extra comfort while sitting nearby. App control adds another way to operate it; this range uses Glen Dimplex Connect, so check the correct app rather than assuming all Dimplex products share one.

What to weigh before buying

Choose the location carefully

A surface-mounted installation and a recessed installation create different wall profiles. Confirm the actual body dimensions and power route with the installer before finishing the surround. This is an indoor appliance; do not treat it as suitable for a bathroom, laundry area or exposed outdoor setting.

Keep heat expectations realistic

The 120-volt heater offers supplemental warmth, with results depending on the room. A separate owner report describes operating noise, so a particularly quiet bedroom deserves a listening check. The warranty is shorter than several premium alternatives.

Value Consideration

Vital Sense is most persuasive when you want a broad contemporary display and connected convenience without buying the deepest or most elaborate flame system. Compare the final installed price with Evolve, including their different warranty terms. Choose the upgrade for a visual or ownership benefit you will actually use, rather than a longer list of settings alone.
