Dimplex Ignite Bold 50-Inch Linear Electric Fireplace
Ignite Bold® combines seven flame themes, five flame speeds and a supplied crystal-and-driftwood media bed, with front, corner or bay-style installation and optional FlameConnect Phone App control.
For a documented 120-volt plug-in installation only.
Details
XLFXDPLUG is the optional Ignite Bold power-cord accessory named in the installation guide. Choose it only for the documented 120-volt connection; it is not for 240-volt operation.
This fireplace uses 1 retail pack of river rocks. Choose these to change the decorative appearance; the standard driftwood and crystal media are already included. Follow the installation guide’s media-placement instructions.
This fireplace uses 1 retail pack of black rocks. Choose these to change the decorative appearance; the standard driftwood and crystal media are already included. Follow the installation guide’s media-placement instructions.
Ignite Bold 50 brings a tall, layered flame presentation to a front-facing fireplace wall, a corner or a bay-style feature. Its mirrored effect creates an impression of depth, with a 16.1-inch-high viewing area and a media bed that combines driftwood with acrylic crystals.
The selected XLF5017-XD package includes 6 driftwood pieces, 2 bags of small crystals, 5 large crystal pieces and 3 extra-large pieces. Arrange the supplied collection using the model’s media guidance before choosing a separate alternative.
Seven flame themes and five speeds let the fireplace take a different role in the room. Use Comfort$aver™ supplemental heat when warmth is wanted, or enjoy the flame with the heating element off.
Make the evening your own
One fireplace. More ways to set the mood.
Adjust the flame independently of the media lighting. Choose five fixed media colors—white, blue, violet, red or green—or use Prism and Kaleidoscope to cycle the media and overhead lights at matched or different rates. Midnight leaves the flames in focus with those lights off.
Custom Color holds a shade during a cycling mode. High or low brightness can be paired with flickering media and overhead lights, and the ambient-light sensor can adjust the fireplace’s illumination as the room changes.
The details make the fire
A different way to bring fire home.
The firebox can be finished front-facing, open on either corner, or with both sides visible. Select the side panels, glass and supplied trims according to the intended installation. Multi-unit installations have separate XLFXDLINK instructions and project-dependent requirements.
Measure once. Enjoy for years.
A clean finish starts behind the wall.
Overall product dimensions are separate from the framed opening below.
For XLF5017-XD, the manual specifies a 49½-inch-wide by 24¼-inch-high opening with a minimum depth of 11⅝ inches, based on ½-inch drywall.

Make room for the finishing details
The opening must not place structural load on the fireplace. Route the supply to the rear top-right entry and use the model’s mounting brackets and glazing retainers. Select the front, corner or bay arrangement before finishing the wall.
Planning a wider installation?
The separate XLFXDLINK kit and its instructions govern multi-unit installations. Plan the complete run and electrical connections with the installer rather than automatically adding a linking kit to a single-appliance order.
Settle in. Stay comfortable.
Warmth when you want it. Control within reach.
Comfort$aver™ adjusts fan speed and heater wattage around the thermostat setting. Normal, Heat Boost, Eco and Fan modes provide different ways to manage supplemental comfort, and the heater can be disabled while the flame remains available.
The heater is rated at 1,500 watts at 120 volts or 2,500 watts at 240 volts. The optional XLFXDPLUG cord is for 120-volt installations; hardwiring is used for 240 volts. Resolve the connection before the surround is closed.
Use the supplied infrared remote, the hidden touch controls or FlameConnect Phone App. A sleep timer runs from 30 minutes to eight hours in half-hour steps, and previous settings are retained after a power interruption.
Take the gathering outside
Bring the glow to a sheltered outdoor room.
Ignite Bold can be installed outdoors with the shelter and electrical protection described in its manual. An overhang must prevent direct water entering the unit; this is a planned covered installation rather than an exposed patio appliance.
The permitted overhang height is no more than three times the projection from the fireplace face. The manual recommends ground-fault protection and requires electrical connections and routing to meet local requirements. Indoor limited coverage is five years; outdoor limited coverage is one year.

Will the nominal fireplace width tell me the opening size?
XLF5017-XD requires a 49½-inch-wide by 24¼-inch-high framed opening, with at least 11⅝ inches of depth. These dimensions are based on ½-inch drywall and apply to the documented front, corner and bay arrangements. The nominal 50-inch model name and the overall product width are different dimension scopes; use the framing table before building the wall.
Can it fit into a standard shallow feature wall?
The documented minimum framing depth is 11⅝ inches. Plan a wall or enclosure that accommodates that depth rather than assuming the installation requirements of a shallower Dimplex family. The fireplace is not load-bearing, and the electrical entry is at the top right at the rear. Two people are required for installation.
Do I need to buy another model for a corner or bay-style view?
The same Ignite Bold firebox supports front-facing, left-corner, right-corner and bay-style configurations. The supplied open-side and closed-side trims are used according to the installation, with side glass fitted where required. Choose the visible sides before framing and finishing the surround; they are installation choices rather than separate size SKUs.
What changes between the flame themes and media Moods?
Seven flame themes adjust the appearance of the flames, while the separate Moods control changes media and overhead lighting. Five fixed media colors are joined by Prism, Kaleidoscope and Midnight. Prism cycles the lights together, Kaleidoscope cycles them at different rates, and Midnight turns media and overhead lights off. Custom Color can hold a chosen color during a cycling mode.
Can I use the fireplace without the FlameConnect Phone App?
Yes. The included infrared remote and hidden upper-right touch controls operate the fireplace. Point the remote toward the front of the unit. FlameConnect Phone App adds mobile control and personalization; if you want to use the app, plan the location within Wi-Fi range. Previously used settings are retained after a power interruption.
Is a power cord included, or should I add the plug kit?
The optional power-cord accessory is XLFXDPLUG, sold separately. It is suitable only for the documented 120-volt installation. A 240-volt installation is hardwired. Choose the electrical arrangement with the installer before ordering a cord; do not treat a 120-volt plug accessory as an alternative connection for an unchanged 240-volt supply.
What do Normal, Heat Boost, Eco and Fan modes do?
Normal uses Comfort$aver™ to adjust output around the thermostat setting. Heat Boost runs at maximum power for 20 minutes before returning to Normal. Eco operates at reduced power, while Fan circulates air with the heating element off. The thermostat range is 45–86°F, and the flame display can be used with heat switched off.
Can I use Ignite Bold in a covered outdoor space?
The manual permits an outdoor installation sheltered against direct water entering the appliance. The overhang height, measured from the bottom of the fireplace to the overhang’s lower edge, must not exceed three times its projection from the fireplace face. A nine-foot height therefore needs at least a three-foot projection, with the protection shown in the manual. Outdoor installations have one year of limited coverage; indoor installations have five.
What should I check before mounting a television above it?
Follow the television or mantel manufacturer’s requirements along with the fireplace guide. The manual’s temperature statement applies to normal heat, correct installation and unobstructed air paths; it does not replace the television’s own limits. Maintain the fireplace’s ceiling clearance and review the complete surround, overhang and electrical layout before fixing positions.
Why does the fan run briefly after I switch the heat off?
The heating element retains heat, so the fan runs for a two-minute cool-down period after heat is switched off. Comfort$aver™ can also maintain low-level circulation around the set temperature. Keep the air inlet and outlet clear. Use the troubleshooting guide or authorized support for repeated faults rather than repeatedly resetting a heater.

Hearth Outpost Score
8.3/10
Ignite Bold is for a room where the fireplace should have presence from more than one angle. Its taller viewing area and configurable sides give the flames and media more depth than a slim front-only installation. We like the visual flexibility and included media, while recognizing that the enclosure needs more planning. Choose the viewing arrangement before the wall is built, and make sure the appearance—not simply the extra controls—is what justifies the step up for your room.

What owners are saying
Owners highlight the modern appearance and the option to expose or enclose the glass sides. Another appreciates the fireplace both switched on and as a feature in the room when off. Those accounts reinforce the importance of the finished installation: the shape and viewing angles are a large part of Bold's appeal, not just its flame settings.
What stands out
Several ways to frame the fire
Front-only, corner and three-sided arrangements allow the appliance to serve different layouts. The taller viewing area can be especially effective when a shallow ribbon of flame would look undersized beside the rest of the room.
Media and lighting work together
The supplied crystal and driftwood arrangement gives the display texture, while the lighting and connected controls let you adjust the mood. An ambient-light function is a useful detail for a fireplace that needs to remain visible as daylight changes.
What to weigh before buying
Settle the enclosure first
The side-glass arrangement, trim and wall finishing need to match the chosen configuration. Leave the prescribed service access and do not assume the body has the same depth as a standard Ignite XL. A change in viewing configuration late in the project can affect the surrounding work.
Confirm the electrical package
The exact connection and any optional plug kit need checking; do not assume a cord is included because another Ignite family supplies one. More glass, lighting and connected functions also mean more components to access if service is eventually needed.
Value Consideration
Bold earns its premium when the side views and taller display genuinely improve the room. If the fireplace will only be seen straight on inside a narrow recess, compare the visual benefit carefully with XL or Evolve. Spend first on the right installation and sightlines; app features alone are not the strongest reason to choose it.
